"…We have to make something unique and historic… stealth, elegant, fast…" - In early 2009, James Hetfield contacted EMG President Rob Turner and presented him a challenge: creating a "stealthy" look set that would capture the clarity and strength of a passive pickup, but that retained the legendary active timbre that shaped a whole generation.

Now available with EMG Metal Works finish and EMG's solderless installation system, the JH set is composed of the JH-N (arm) and the JH-B (bridge). Both were inspired by pickups that James had worn for 30 years, but the end result was a completely different animal. JH-N has individual ceramic magnet polos and coils. Each pole is larger in diameter than EMG 60 and taller. This produces more attack, higher output, and fuller bass in the position of the arm. The JH-B uses the same type of configuration, but has steel poles, unlike 81, which uses bar magnets. This produces the classic EMG attack with less inductance for more cleanliness and accuracy.

The EMG Metal Works finish consists of six stainless steel trim options for any of the EMG pickups that are active or passive humbuckers. These housings are manufactured in the USA and are available in Gold, Chrome, Brushed Gold, Brushed Chrome, Black Chrome, and Brushed Black Chrome. These stunning new designs offer musicians and luthiers a wider range of premium finish options. All the power and clarity of EMG electronics, now with it in a classic-modern look.
